This gallery features the the art of Digital artist Jack Andrews. He and I collaborated on the creation of digital renderings of the drawings of Mount Meru from a 2nd century Chinese manuscript and the Bicentennial Capitol Mall in Nashville, TN (which I call Stargate Park). I think Jack’s work has a slightly Asian feel that made him perfect for this job. Synchronicity struck in the early renderings of the Bicentennial Mall when a ‘Buddha’ appeared to be meditating near the top. We took this as a cue to place an actual Buddha in the final render. See if you can find the Buddha in the Mall images. Next, we turned to the diagram of Mount Meru, the ‘Cosmic Axis’ or ‘Ladder to Heaven’ of Eastern tradition. It’s astonishing how technological-looking this ancient diagram became when interpreted in 3-D by a computer. In fact, I think you’ll agree, that Jack was quite faithful to what was there to work with originally. The result is quite astonishing. Enjoy!
